End-of-Life.jpg

At Death Positive Libraries NI, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of openness, understanding, and acceptance around death and dying.

Our initiative aims to create safe spaces within libraries across Northern Ireland where individuals can explore, learn, and discuss topics related to death and end-of-life care without stigma or fear.

We understand that people impacted by death, dying and loss often suffer a social death causing social isolation and loneliness.

By ensuring that people living with an advanced illness and frailty remain connected to people in the places where they normally live, work, play and pray, they are included and can contribute to their communities.

“I have worked with Compassionate Communities across 2 different roles in local government on both sides of the border in NI and ROI.  This work has been invaluable in both my roles both on a personal and professional basis.

I have learned about the importance of advance care planning and its impact on our lives, and also worked closely with compassionate communities and other partners to successfully co-produce different approaches to deliver on these difficult topics.

Compassionate Communities are a progressive organisation who pro-actively seek to embed and share good practice and are professional and excellent to work with”
– Sharon Howe
